With over 38 years in the packaging industry, we know the importance of packaging and supply chain. Get to know us!
Strapping is a quick and efficient way to fasten goods together for easier handling, to reinforce boxes for transit or to attach items to pallets for extra stability.
Our range includes every type of strapping for every packaging need from lightweight boxes to the heaviest pallet loads, together with a full range of strapping equipment and accessories.
All our boxes and board is 100% recyclable and biodegradable, our eco plastics all have a minimum of 30% recycled content, and we’re actively sourcing eco alternatives to add to our product range to help customers meet their needs environmental targets and minimise the impact of the new plastic tax.
Strapping is a widely used method for securing and stabilising pallet loads during transportation and storage. It involves using straps made of various materials to tightly secure items on a pallet, preventing shifting, tilting, or damage during handling and transit. The primary purpose of strapping is to ensure the stability and integrity of the pallet load, reducing the risk of accidents, product damage, and loss.
Materials: Strapping materials are available in different types, each offering specific characteristics and strengths. Common strapping materials include plastic (polypropylene or polyester) and steel. Plastic strapping is lightweight, flexible, and resistant to rust and corrosion. Steel strapping, on the other hand, provides exceptional strength and is ideal for heavy-duty applications or loads with sharp edges.
Strapping Tools: Strapping tools are used to apply tension, seal, and cut the strapping material. They include manual tensioners, sealers, combination tools, and pneumatic or battery-powered tools for high-volume operations. The choice of strapping tools depends on the type of
Tensioning: Proper tensioning is crucial for effective load stability. The strapping should be tensioned tightly to secure the items on the pallet, but not excessively to the point of damaging the products. Insufficient tension may lead to load shifting, while excessive tension can cause product damage or even pallet failure. Tensioning should be uniform across all straps to maintain balance and stability.
Seal Types: The ends of the strapping material are sealed together to form a secure bond. There are different types of seals used, such as metal seals, wire buckles, or heat seals (for plastic strapping). Metal seals are crimped onto the strapping using a seal or combination tool, providing a strong and reliable connection. Wire buckles are threaded onto the strapping and tightened, while heat seals are created by applying heat to melt the ends of plastic strapping together.
Load Reinforcement: In some cases, additional reinforcement techniques can be employed along with strapping to enhance load stability. This includes corner boards, edge protectors, or stretch wrapping. Corner boards are placed at the corners of the pallet to prevent damage from strapping tension, while edge protectors safeguard the edges of the load. Stretch wrapping is a technique where a plastic film is tightly wrapped around the entire pallet, providing an extra layer of stability and protection.
Compliance and Safety: When using strapping for pallet load stability, it is important to follow relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices. Compliance ensures the safe handling and transport of goods, reduces the risk of accidents, and maintains product integrity. It is essential to train personnel on proper strapping techniques, including correct tensioning, sealing, and load distribution.
Strapping plays a vital role in maintaining the stability and integrity of pallet loads during transit and storage. By securely binding items to pallets, it minimizes the risk of damage, load shifts, and accidents. Proper selection of strapping materials, appropriate tensioning, and sealing techniques are essential for achieving effective load stability and ensuring the safe and secure transportation of goods.
