Machine Pallet Wrap

Wrapping pallets properly with machine pallet wrap to ensure your products arrive securely and safely is dependent on the type of film used and the way it has been wrapped.

There are different types of film in both hand rolls and machine rolls.

Pre-Stretch is a term used for a higher performance caste film that is used on pallet wrappers that have a power pre-stretch unit fitted. The power pre-stretch unit stretches the film by 250 – 400% before applying it to the pallet. It is normally used in higher volumes.

Pre-Stretched (E-Stretch) film is a caste film that has been stretched before it is wound onto the cardboard core. This means that the operator can apply the film with very little stretch and the film contracts after it’s been applied to the pallet giving good pallet stability. It is used in hand rolls and on machines. It is a good machine film for lightweight pallets as you can apply it with very low tension and achieve a high tension result.

INVICTUS NANO is a multi-layer machine pallet wrap that is very strong (67 layers) and very thin. It is used on power pre-stretch pallet wrappers as it a very high-performance film. With nanofilm, your cost per wrapped pallet will be less and the amount of film used will be less, reducing your carbon footprint, and the pallet stability is exceptionally good.

Machine Pallet Wrap is film designed specifically for use on pallet wrapping machines, rather than applied by hand. Types of Machine Pallet Wrap

Cast Film

A non-sticky film with good memory retention, relying on the operator (or machine) to stretch it rather than gentle wrapping, since its cling comes from retraction rather than tack. Used on both pallet wrapping machines and hand rolls.

Pre-Stretched (E-Stretch) Film

A cast film that’s been stretched before being wound onto the core, meaning it can be applied with very little additional tension while still contracting after application for good pallet stability. It’s a strong choice for lightweight pallets, achieving high tension results at low application tension.

Infinity Nanofilm

A multi-layer machine pallet wrap that’s very strong yet very thin, built for use on power pre-stretch pallet wrappers. Because it’s a high-performance film, less material is needed per pallet — lowering your cost per wrapped pallet and reducing film waste, while still delivering exceptional pallet stability.

Choosing the Right Film for Your Machine

The right film depends on your machine type and the loads you’re wrapping:

Standard core-break turntable machines generally suit cast or pre-stretch films.
Power pre-stretch machines get the most benefit from nanofilm, since the machine does the stretching mechanically.
Lightweight or unstable loads often perform best with pre-stretched (e-stretch) film, applied at low tension.
High-volume operations benefit most from nanofilm’s lower cost per pallet and reduced film usage.

What’s the difference between cast and pre-stretched film?

Cast film relies on the operator or machine to stretch it during application, while pre-stretched (e-stretch) film has already been stretched before it’s wound onto the core, allowing it to be applied at lower tension while still achieving good stability.

What is nanofilm and why is it more expensive?

Nanofilm (such as Infinity Nanofilm) is a multi-layer, high-performance film that’s thinner and stronger than standard cast film. Although the price per roll can be higher, less film is needed per pallet, often making the cost per wrapped pallet lower overall.
